Prague – Overview
The largest city and capital of the Czech Republic, Prague is a truly intriguing city. For many
centuries the cultural hub of historical Bohemia, it remains as important in modern Europe today.
Nicknamed the ‘Golden City’ of one hundred spires, Prague retains architectural influences from the
Renaissance and Baroque periods right up to the cubist styles of the 20th Century, and represents
one of the most creative centres of urbanism developed through history evident in the world.
Situated on River Vltava, Prague’s golden tipped towers, castles, and cathedrals are reflected in the
waters for the 1.3 million city residents and the millions of visitors each year. Prague is packed full of
treasures, and the Historic Centre is an UNESCO listed heritage site. Take a stroll along the cobbled
streets or take a river cruise to soak up the magic of this most inspiring of cities.
In Prague, almost half of the national income comes from tourism, and as such visitors are not
left wanting. With hotels, restaurants, cafes and after hours venues to suit all budgets, Prague is
the perfect combination of the truly historic, with all the hallmarks of a world leading modern and
progressive city.
Prague enjoys the full range of seasons, from crisp spring mornings, to warm summer evenings, to
snow filled days during winter. The city turrets and river are as picturesque whatever the weather,
making Prague a great year round destination.
