Prague – Getting Around
Buses
On the whole, buses serve the suburbs and areas just outside the city, and do not generally serve the
centre. They run frequently, and are well connected with metro stops to get you into the city centre.
Night buses also run while the metro does not, so getting home after a night out is not a problem.
Metro
Three Metro lines traverse the city from west to east and north to south, all converging centrally
at ‘Muzeum’ station. They run from around 5am to midnight, and run every few minutes or so
through the day. Tickets should be bought and validated before you board, and inspectors do work
the lines. A very quick, well priced and easy way to get around the city.
Trams
The tram system is extensive, covering more of Prague than the Metro can serve, and runs from
around 4.30am to midnight. Tickets can be bought in groups of days that may save you money. It’s
a great way to see some of the city, and routes such as tram 22 cover beautifully scenic journeys,
passing the National Theatre and Prague Castle on the way.
Walking
Prague is a wonderfully walkable city, with sites of beauty and cultural importance at every turn.
Many companies offer walking tours, and you can choose to tailor your trip to take in the battles,
palaces, the Jewish Quarter, boats and the water, or even ghosts of old. Even without a guide, just
getting lost amongst the cobbled streets of the city will leave you truly inspired.
